Romeo And Juliet
The Elizabethan period saw the rise in the popularity of theatres and during this time the staging of plays moved from inn-yards to the building of huge outdoor amphitheatres, such as the Globe, which were used for the summer seasons and the building or renovation of indoor theatres, used in the Winter seasons and by royalty, called Playhouses. Marriage in Elizabethan times was hard for woman as they were treated objects and their role in the marriage was to care for the children and look after the household. Women were not given many opportunities in life and had a shorter education. The Man’s role in the marriage was to work and provide a living for the family to survive on. The men were given many opportunities in life and were usually given more respect then woman. My intentions for the essay are to trace the development of the characters Romeo and Juliet in the play “Romeo and Juliet”. The play is set in Verona in a public place.
