By the summer of 1960 there was a close presidential race developing between Vice- president Richard Nixon and a lesser knows Catholic, John Kennedy.
There were many that felt the entire election would be settled in a series of television debates, the first such debate ever held.
When the first debate began Kennedy was sharply dressed, with his hair well groomed, and his makeup just right. Nixon on the other hand looked nervous and sweaty, an a bland gray suit. J.F.K's composure and boyish good looks were a great visual contrast to the shifty-eyed, sweaty-browed Nixon.
It was the visual effect which is generally accepted as having been the most important factor in the Kennedy debate victory which lead to his subsequent election victory. The public worry as too Kennedy's relative youth and inexperience was calmed and Kennedy had a new image which he would......
