Doc Dorman

Doc was born and raised in Fayette, competed on Upper Iowa University teams when he was still in high school, and received his B.S. degree in 1900.
He earned his dental degree in 1904 when he went to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. -- and where he also played four more years of college baseball.

Doc Dorman's athletic career was only momentarily interrupted at the start of his professional life. He became legendary in Iowa sports through the first half of the century, serving as the football coach at Upper Iowa University in Fayette for 50 consecutive years from 1910 to 1960. Doc Dorman was associated with Upper Iowa athletics as a player and coach for 63 years. He was still the school's baseball coach at the time of his death early in 1963, when he was 84.
