The popular media have for many years increasingly held up a thinner and thinner image as the ideal for women. The presence these extremely thing women effects how girls view their own image. The media seem to have left the full-figured women in the dust and now only portray women as Barbies come to life with no room for fault. Selling their product is more important to advertisers rather than showing average women, which teens can relate to. This unrealistic image of women as supermodels only lowers one's self esteem. A child's body image develops as the result of many including how people around her react to her body and how she looks. The media largely affects what a teenager feels is society's standards for the "ideal body". The unrealistic image media portrays of women leads teens to have distortional body images, health issues and even financial concerns.
