The British were fighting with the French, and they both enlisted the aboriginals to fight for their sides against each other and their counterpart.

They had a very good system of land development and a hierarchy of family lineage before the Europeans arrived
Africa was relatively uncolonized or harshly defended

A large amount of people sustained themselves by being iron workers and trading in crafts and resources
Much like Europe, they made alliances through marriage, which often contained "bridewealth", the opposite of dowries
