In today's gaming community there are many heavy hitters that are all playing game for the greater market share, but the two that are constantly on top would be Sony's PlayStation3 (PS3) and Microsoft's XBOX360. With each company continually trying to outdo each other, there is a need for consumers to have an informed opinion about each gaming unit to make the right purchase for their needs. Currently, the XBOX360 is on shelves all across the world and the PlayStation3 will be out shortly before the holiday season of 2006.
The main core or heart of a gaming system would be its central processing unit (or CPU for short). In comparing CPU's we must look at their number of dot product calculations per second that the system can perform. These calculations are crucial to understand because they are used in 3D math to calculate various items such as projections, transformations, vector lengths, and many more (Deboe).
