A sixth grade student writes, "The Holocaust is not just a word used to describe something anymore. It is spelled with a capital H and is known to everyone as a great tragedy." (citation) There are countless acts of hatred throughout the world, on all levels of society, everyday. Many people use hate crimes and discrimination towards others as a form of punishment. People ask why, and the main answer is because of a lack of understanding, a lack of knowledge, knowledge of what has happened in the past. If young adults are taught about the Holocaust in-depth, they can make a difference. The difference they can make can affect the world. Yet it all comes back to the basic knowledge, the knowledge of past horrific events such as the Holocaust.
