Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also called Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neuromuscular disease that weakens and eventually destroys motor neurons. (http://www.neurologyc) It was Ironic that Lou Gehrig would get such a disease, once known as the "Iron Horse" for his two thousand, one hundred, and thirty consecutive games played. (http://www.als.ca/lou_) Lou Eventually died from the disease but his name would stay with it forever making Lou Gehrig Synonymous with ALS for year and years to come.
Lou Gehrig was born on June 19th 1903 in New York City. Lou had a wife Eleanor Twitchel who he cared about very much. Lou Gehrig had a deep passion for his wife. Growing up Lou played football, baseball, gymnastics, soccer, ice skating, swimming, billiards and marbles. Lou went to Columbia University and attended there on a football scholarship not baseball.
