When people think of slavery, the Atlantic Slave Trade is what usually comes to mind. People being shipped from one place to another, being bought and sold, and the end of slavery in the 1800's. Most people think of slavery as a part of the past instead of the present. However, it still exists today.
It is no longer referred to as slavery, but the circumstances are still similar. A slave is forced to do labor through mental or physical threats and/or abuse. Slaves are owned and controlled by an ‘employer' who can sell or buy them just like any other property or good. Their freedom is no longer in their own hands, but is restricted.
