Evaluation of E.B. White's Essay
E.B. White's essay, "Once More To The Lake," is an enjoyable story full of detailed description and emotion. In the beginning, this author uses specific words and phrases to describe the setting, a camp at a lake in Maine that the main character used to visit when he was a young boy with his father. This part of the essay, "…this holy spot—the coves and streams, the hills that the sun set behind, the camps and the paths behind the camps…" allows the readers to picture this peaceful place in their minds. When the main character grows older and has his own son, he goes to this campsite on the lake, and White describes to the reader how the place looks the same as it did before. When the man in the essay brings his son to go fishing at the lake, the story tells how this reminded the man how him and his father used to be.
